Audiobook narration & production

Audiobook narration
in a grounded voice.

Hear your book in a human voice. Single-voice narration for non-fiction, memoir and practical philosophy. I record, edit and master the audio, so you receive a finished book rather than a folder of raw takes.

Hear the voice

A complete introduction.

This is the introduction to VirtueCoded, recorded in my own voice. Hear the pacing and tone before deciding whether they fit your book.

3 minutes, 41 seconds. Complete and uncut.

For a closer fit check, send a short passage from your own book. A brief sample recording is available at no cost before you commit.

Your production rate
$150

per finished hour of audio · $150 minimum

The rate is based on the length of the finished audio, including the recording, editing and mastering behind it. Any project under one finished hour is billed at the $150 minimum.

Word-count estimates use ACX’s average of about 9,300 words per finished hour. Actual length depends on pace and the manuscript. How ACX estimates length.

Estimated project total: $150.00

For example, five finished hours cost $750. Scope and delivery date are agreed by email before recording begins.

A useful first email

Tell me about
your project.

  1. The book: its genre, word count and where you plan to distribute the audio.
  2. The sound: a short passage, pronunciation notes and the tone you have in mind.
  3. The timing: your target date and any constraints that affect the work.

Short narrated pieces can also be discussed by email. The same $150 minimum applies; the scope is agreed before work begins.

Before you request a quote

Know what you’re booking.

What does “per finished hour” mean?

You pay for the duration of the completed audio. The recording and editing work is included. A 30-minute project is $150 because of the minimum; a five-hour audiobook is $750.

What kind of books suit this voice?

Non-fiction, memoir and practical philosophy are the starting point: a measured, grounded single voice. Listen to the sample and send a short passage to discuss fit. Fiction and short narrated pieces can be discussed individually by email.

What do I receive?

Edited and mastered chapter files, opening and closing credits, a retail sample, and corrections for misreads and mispronunciations. The technical delivery format is agreed for your distributor before work starts.

Can the files be prepared for ACX?

Yes. The production specification is checked against ACX’s published requirements for MP3 format, loudness, peaks and noise floor. ACX also reviews the performance and content before accepting a title. Read ACX’s requirements.

How soon can my book be recorded?

Send your word count and target date. Scope and a delivery date are agreed in writing before recording starts; the estimate calculator does not reserve a production slot.

What if I revise the manuscript?

Corrections to the narrator’s misreads are included. Changes to the manuscript or scope after recording begins are discussed and agreed separately, so the work and cost stay clear.
